Mining Ruins, Quartzsite, Arizona

Sugar Loaf Peak Mine
The abandoned mine is just outside of Quartzsite up a steep mountain called Sugar Loaf Peak. I have seen it over the years and finally decided to take a peek inside. The opening of the shaft is about 5 feet high at the entrance but opens up to over 7 feet in height. We walked in about 150 feet and turned back once the darkness creeped up. I had led lights in my truck but didn’t want to walk back down the 100+ yards of slippery rock road. Plus I didn’t have the proper gear with us to go any further.

Just past the area where it got dark the trail splits off in two paths. So the mine must go a long way, maybe even to the other side of the peak. There are tons of caves and audits all over this area and most are abandoned and unsafe.
